NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- The Humane Society of Central Illinois is pushing an effort to clear the shelter to save more animals in Illinois and to give some furry friends homes.

"The real effort is that we want to make some space for some animals that we do have coming in, that we know that we're taking from some high-risk areas. We have some animals coming in, and we're really just hoping to make space for them and get some animals that have been here for a while adopted out," said Nicole Monson, director of community engagement at the shelter.

The effort started at the beginning of the month and will come to a close on Saturday, Aug. 30. During the month, adoption fees have been reduced for cat and dog adoptions.
