STERLING, Va. — Tucked away in Richmond Davis’ closet is a large pink backpack. You may not think twice about it but the contents inside hold a significant meaning and a devastating reminder.
“I wouldn’t give it up for anything because it reminds me of where I came from and where I’ve been to,” said Davis.
Inside are old paperwork and newspaper clippings of his beloved New Orleans Saints. It was the only thing Davis had when he and his three children relocated to Loudoun County after Hurricane Katrina slammed New Orleans, killing nearly 1,400 people.
“I went around and started grabbing all of the important documents,” recalled Davis. “Everything that I owned was in that backpack.”
