NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) -- Illinois State University has announced changes to its tailgating rules with football season starting this weekend.
Now, tailgating will end at kickoff of the game, instead of 90 minutes after the game like it was. This change aligns with what many other universities are doing.
It will also help first responders in the area, as many medical transports and police events can happen during 12 hours of tailgating, especially with alcohol involved. Now with only five hours, it reduces the risk of anyone getting hurt.
ISU Chief of police Aaron Woodruff says it also allows more time for people to do what they're there to do.
“We want to make sure that people are here to help support our athletes. I mean, that's the whole purpose of it is for school spirit. And then hope
