COOPER LANDING — Work is moving forward on one of Alaska’s most ambitious infrastructure projects: the Juneau Creek Bridge, a centerpiece of the Sterling Highway 45-60, aka, the Cooper Landing Bypass.
The bridge, now under construction north of Cooper Landing, will stretch nearly 1,000 feet across a steep canyon and rise about 250 feet above Juneau Creek, making it one of the tallest bridges in the state. At 63.5 feet wide, the Alaska Department of Transportation says the structure will carry traffic on a new 10-mile stretch of highway designed to ease congestion, improve safety, and support long-term transportation needs along the Kenai Peninsula’s main corridor.
