SHELDON, Iowa (KTIV) - A northwest Iowa man is in the hospital after a collision between a pickup and a semi near Sheldon on Thursday, Aug. 28.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 21-year-old Jonathan Van Meeteren of George failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection of Northwest Boulevard and Highway 60, which is located north of Sheldon.

Just before 2:30 P.M., he reportedly pulled his pickup out into the path of a semi, driven by 51-year-old Leonardo Hernandez of Hialeah, Florida.

Van Meeteren’s pickup was pushed into a ditch, catching fire, according to law enforcement.

He was taken by ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Hospital. His current condition is not known. Law enforcement says Hernandez was not injured during the accident.
