MEDINA, Ohio — A Cleveland police officer and Portage County sheriff’s deputy are charged in connection with an attack on a man they mistakenly believed was an undocumented immigrant.
Both Donald Kopchak, 41, and Daniel Lajack, 48, were federal task force officers and off-duty at the time they were accused of attacking a truck driver at the Buzzards Roost bar in Hinckley Township.
A Medina County grand jury on Tuesday handed up an indictment charging both with two counts of third-degree felony abduction, one count of fifth-degree felony ethnic intimidation and a first-degree misdemeanor count of assault.
Both were issued summons for their arraignment on Sept. 16.
