The high school football season is officially here, as teams around the Lone Star State kicked off on Thursday night.

Six teams in the Texas Panhandle compete on Thursday night, as three 11-man football teams from the area started their seasons 1-0.

At Dick Bivins Stadium, Tascosa avenged its 2024 season-opening loss to Palo Duro with a win against Eric Mims Sr. and the Dons. At Happy State Bank Stadium, Canyon avenged its 2024 Week 1 by beating Perryton.

Hereford also picked up a win on the road in Lubbock despite a back-and-forth first half.

Most of the Amarillo area will begin the 2025 campaign on Friday, with one six-man football game in Jayton on Saturday. Dick Bivins Stadium will play host to Amarillo High and Odessa High on Friday night, while Seminole travels to Happy State Ban
