With the Bemidji High School boys soccer team holding a 2-1 lead late in the first half against Section 8-3A favorite Buffalo, head coach Rick Toward had to get creative.

While contesting a free kick inside the penalty area, senior keeper Kellen Heuer collided with a Bison player who went for a header. Heuer missed the ball completely and was given a yellow card, which set up Buffalo with a penalty kick.

Adding insult to injury, none of Bemidji’s junior varsity players were available on Thursday, meaning backup keeper Birk Chaffee was unable to take the penalty kick in goal for the Lumberjacks.
