The UAF volleyball team opened the 2025 season at the Hawaii-Alaska Challenge on Thursday with a win, defeating No. 9 Chaminade University over five sets.

In Anchorage to start the season, UAF opened against the nationally ranked Chaminade University Silverswords, who entered the contest at No. 9 in the AVCA Division II Preseason Top 25 Poll.

Chaminade spent the entirety of the 2024 season ranked in the poll and looked to kick off its 2025 campaign on a strong note.

The Nanooks and Silverswords meet frequently, with the Hawaii-based program usually getting the upper hand. UAF previously won against Chaminade in the 2022 season and lost the next four meetings.
