EAST LANSING – Sam Edwards committed to play for Mark Dantonio with Michigan State football as a preferred walk-on before he retired .

Edwards stuck around and became a contributor on special teams for Mel Tucker before he was fired.

When Jonathan Smith got hired near the end of 2023, Edwards considered calling it a career. He loved what he heard from the former Oregon State coach. He devoured the message from his new defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, hired away from Minnesota.
