VIENNA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- A horse has tested positive for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus in the town of Vienna, according to the Oneida County Health Department.

The yearling horse developed symptoms on Wednesday, August 27, and positive test results from the Cornell Lab was reported on Thursday, August 28.

The horse was up to date on its vaccinations; however, it was ultimately euthanized.

“There is no human vaccine for EEE, so people should take measures to reduce exposure around their homes and the chances of being bitten by mosquitoes,” Oneida County Public Health Director Daniel W.
