OAKRIDGE, Ore. - The Emigrant Fire, sparked by lightning on Sunday, continues to challenge crews southeast of Oakridge, according to Willamette National Forest officials.
Forest officials said that the fire has consumed 16,372 acres and remains at zero percent containment. Efforts are underway to prevent the blaze from crossing Forest Service Road 21. Crews have made progress on containment lines, aided by an influx of resources. They are also working with private landowners and protecting recreational infrastructure.
Seven helicopters and two fixed-wing aircraft are assisting ground crews. The fire is burning within the 2009 Tumblebug Fire scar but is expected to moderate as it moves into adjacent forest lands.
The weather offers a mixed forecast. While hot and dry conditions persist,
