COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Visitors to Riverbanks Zoo and Garden can now take a more scenic route to get from one attraction to the other.

Riverbanks announced Friday that the long-awaited Saluda Skyride is now open to the public.

The lift takes visitors across the Saluda River and connects the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden in a two-and-a-half-minute ride. Each cabin can fit up to eight passengers, with officials also saying they can each easily accommodate wheelchairs and strollers.

Riverbanks says the Saluda Skyride is part of its multi-year expansion plan known as “Bridge to the Wild,” which it says will bring an over-$175 million economic impact to the Midlands and create 500 new jobs.
