LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - From expanding the station to the staff, Fern Creek Fire is celebrating what its additions mean for the surrounding areas.

Pushing the engines is a firehouse tradition that dates back hundreds of years. On Friday morning, the moment meant something more for members of Station 73.

Their firehouse, located at 10200 Cedar Creek Road, was originally built in 2009. It was home to Hillview’s department before the 2023 merger. The area surrounding Fern Creek’s fire station has grown rapidly with the addition of nearly 3,000 homes.

Before 5 a.m. on Friday, this expansion to Fern Creek proved that it is needed in the community.
