CHARLESTON — A downtown property that's been home to a number of popular small businesses for decades could be torn down if the owners get the necessary approval from the city.
And it doesn't seem like the tenants have had much warning.
Eddie Bello of Bello Garris Architects submitted a demolition request to the Charleston Board of Architectural Review on behalf of the property owners of 280 Meeting St. The proposal, set to be discussed at the Sept. 10 meeting, asks to raze the buildings that are currently occupied by Theatre 99, The Bicycle Shoppe and 319 Men.
The property owner in the application is listed as W.E. Applegate III, as well as 280 Meeting Street Associates LLC, which purchased the site for $3.9 million in 2015, according to county records.
