SLIDELL, La. —

A man accused of striking and killing a 6-year-old boy in Slidell is no longer facing vehicular homicide charges connected to the case.

A joint statement was issued by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and the St. Tammany Parish district attorney on Friday, announcing that charges connected to the death of the boy against Cody Beaudette had been dropped. Advertisement

Those charges were vehicular homicide, reckless operation and hit-and-run.

The sheriff's office references new evidence in the case as to why the charges were dropped. No other suspects or arrests were announced by the sheriff's office.

Beaudette was accused of striking and killing Jeremiah Ramirez, who was riding his scooter on Northshore Lane on Aug. 13.
