MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A man who was wanted on a murder warrant from 2023 was arrested Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Back on July 29, 2023, Elmer Carillo was found dead on the 500 block of Berclair Road from a gunshot wound.

Two days later, Brayan Gomex was issued a second-degree murder warrant through the Shelby County Criminal Court.

The Shelby County Fugitive Apprehension Team and the USMS Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force teamed up to track Gomez.

He was located at a residence in the 3500 block of Clearbrook Street. When he tried to escape through the back of the residence, investigators stopped him from leaving.

After Gomez refused to leave, the task force, led by a K9 named Marko, broke into the residence and found him hiding
