PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - Democratic party officials from Clinton, Franklin, and Essex Counties in a joint statement Friday announced that Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Michael Cashman is their choice for the upcoming race in New York's 115th Assembly District. Rep. Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay) has said that he will resign at the end of August.
"We spoke with several strong potential candidates, but Michael Cashman stood out. He brings the energy, vision, and experience that the North Country needs right now."
Victim's rights advocate Bridie Farrell had also aimed for the Democratic nomination. However, the three Democratic officials praised Cashman for outreach to business leaders in the North Country, and said that he has a record of on-time budgets.
