KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) - After taking a tour at Eastman, Dobyns-Bennett High School students were interested in starting a recycling project for their sporting events.
Eastman Corporate Communications Representative Kristen Parker said once students saw the methanol facility and how it breaks down plastic waste, it inspired the students to start a recycling program at their school.
Parker said the students led the effort in creating the program and came up with all the ideas.
"We're there to guide and encourage as we need to," said Parker. "They came up with this plan to begin collecting the plastic at sporting events, and they will pick it up, they'll sort it out, and they'll bring it to Eastman, and we'll be able to process it at our facility."
