COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Folks are preparing to fire up their grills this upcoming Labor Day weekend, and Columbus Fire and EMS says safety should remain a top priority.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, gas grills were involved in an average of 8,900 home fires per year, while charcoal or other solid fuel grills were involved in 1,300 home fires per year.
The association says having a fire extinguisher on hand could prevent your Labor Day fun from becoming a holiday disaster.
Columbus Fire and EMS Fire Inspector Lt. Courtney Brown also expresses that an extinguisher close by is well-needed if anyone plans to grill over the weekend.
