REMUS – Every team expects to make mistakes in the first game, but the Manistee varsity football coach Alvin Rischel’s message to the Mariners before kickoff Thursday night against Chippewa Hills was to make sure every mistake they made was fast and physical.

He also told them that they were going to correct the mistakes they made, but not to let them slow them down against the Warriors, and to make sure they were playing at the same speed from the opening kickoff to the final horn.

Consider that mission accomplished after the Mariners shook off an early deficit to speed away to a convincing 42-15 non-conference win in their lid lifter at Remus.
