WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman was seriously injured in a shooting Friday night in Wake Forest.

Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to the 600 block of East Nelson Avenue.

A 56-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound was taken to a hospital with what were described as serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police said it appeared to be an isolated incident, with no additional threat to the public.

The shooting remains under investigation.
