NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A contractor was fatally electrocuted while working at the Yale Golf Course last week, and the university has now released his name.

The contractor, identified on Friday evening as Luis Marcatoma, 54, of New Haven, was working on the course on Thursday, Aug. 21, when he came into contact with electrical wires and was electrocuted to death, according to Yale.

The wires were down due to a tree that fell during a recent storm, the university said.

"Yale offers its deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the deceased," the university's Media Relations Team said in a statement.

Marcatoma was employed by Eastern Land Management.

Yale's golf course is currently under restoration and hasn't been open to players since 2023, the university said.
