Global Water’s Santa Cruz Water Company reported this morning that a routine water sample in Maricopa tested positive for E. coli bacteria, prompting the utility to issue a Tier 1 advisory to some customers. The situation was resolved within days, and state regulators have deemed the water safe.
The company said it takes nearly 1,000 water quality samples annually from its Maricopa system to ensure compliance with drinking water regulations. During testing between this week, one sample returned positive for E. coli.
On Wednesday, Global Water received the result from a test conducted the day before. In response, the utility increased chlorination, flushed the system in the affected area and collected additional samples Thursday.
