BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

A Birmingham man who was shot Friday night has died at the hospital, according to police.

Just after 10 p.m., officers were called about a person shot in the 900 block of Sixth Lane, in the Central Pratt community.

When they arrived they found that Robert Mitchell, 41, had been shot and was lying in the grassy area next to a home.

Birmingham officers performed life-saving measures on him until Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived. They rushed him to UAB Hospital where he died.

Investigators believe that Mitchell may have been inside a nearby home when he was shot.

There is no one in custody.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call the homicide unit
