FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The lengthy YSL trial brought a series of unexpected turns over two years including recused judges, guilty pleas and more than a dozen "not guilty" verdicts.

It also sparked a romance between criminal defense attorney Kayla Bumpus and defendant Shannon "Jackson" Stillwell, who a jury found not guilty of murder, RICO and criminal street gang activity.

"While our roles were very different, we are thankful that our worlds collided," the couple wrote on a contest blog. They're now expecting a baby boy this October.

Bumpus, an attorney who specializes in criminal defense and personal injury law, represented several clients with ties to the YSL trial. She frequently attended court hearings and even asked for her own Rule 22 to record proceedings at one point.
