PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - It was a quite a start to Bear Bachmeier's BYU career.

Bachmeier accounted for five touchdowns in the biggest shutout blowout in school history, a 69-0 romp past Portland State. Bachmeier made school history himself, becoming the first true freshman to ever start a season opener for the Cougars.

Bachmeier played just one half against Portland State, but threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in the 500th game at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Bachmeier totaled 129 yards on offense and completed 64% of his passes in one half of play.

"I thought it was a great team win," Bachmeier said. "I thought we ran the ball really well. We put up a lot of points, and the defense was second to none. So I thought that was a great team win."
