LOGAN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) - It was a rousing victory to kick off the Bronco Mendenhall era at Utah State.

Bryson Barnes threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a score as the Aggies held off UTEP in their season opener Saturday, 28-16.

The victory was Mendenhall's first as Utah State's head coach.

"It was a really gratifying day," Mendenhall said. "I'm really fortunate to be the coach at Utah State. The stadium was electric, and with the HURD, our alumni and just the community members, it was really a home field advantage. I felt lucky to be the coach tonight."
