PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Portlanders took a moment to remember those lost to gun violence Saturday at an event called “Unity in the Community.”

The event was held to help raise awareness of the crisis and call for unity, remembrance, and bring some healing to the families impacted by gun violence.

As multiple posterboards are hung, each with various names on them of lives lost to gun violence in Portland, mother Lucy Mashia said it is a stark reminder of the toll gun violence has on her and her family, which she said she lives with every day.

“It’s just getting bigger and bigger, and it should be getting smaller and smaller,” said Mashia.

Mashia lost her son, Leonard James Irving, in 2011 to gun violence, and said the suspected killer is in jail but not for his death.
