A young woman has died after suffering a severe allergic reaction during a CT scan.
Leticia Paul, 22, was a law graduate from Lontras, near Rio do Sul in Brazil, who was also undertaking postgraduate studies in real estate law and business.
She had a history of kidney stones, and was regularly examined by doctors, but her family members have reported her last checkup was fatal.
Ms Paul went to Alto Vale Regional Hospital and had a contrast-enhanced CT scan, which involves the use of a chemical substance to highlight specific areas of the body.
Tragically, Ms Paul had a rare adverse reaction to the substance and went into anaphylactic shock.
She was intubated following the procedure, but sadly died last Wednesday, less than 24 hours after the exam.
