Deborah Weaver, who guided the Westport River Watershed Alliance through some of the biggest changes it has seen in its nearly half century of existence, will retire at the end of the year, ending an 10-year tenure as the environmental organization’s executive director.

“It has been the honor of my career to lead (the alliance) during such a transformative time,” she said.

Weaver, who joined the organization in 2015, oversaw major changes at the organization, which advocates for the health and restoration of the Westport River, education and other related environmental causes. One of the biggest milestones during her stay was the construction of the River Center, the WRWA’s home at the Head of Westport, which broke ground in 2018. The work took more a year and since then,
