GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – Police are searching for the boater involved in a hit-and-run crash on Sunday, Aug. 31.
A man was crossing the West Grand Traverse Bay in a 26-foot boat around 1:22 a.m. when it was struck by a pontoon boat traveling north.
The pontoon, which had no lights on, struck the boat and then continued north into the west bay, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office .
The driver of the boat that was hit was unable to get a description of the pontoon but immediately called 911 and put on a life jacket, police said.
Deputies brought the man, and towed his boat, back to shore. No injuries were reported.
Police said the pontoon boat will have damage to the front of the vessel. The Coast Guard is assisting police in the search.
