WEST BRANCH, Iowa (KCRG) - West Branch, Iowa is the hometown of the only US president from Iowa, Herbert Hoover, and it’s also the home to Iowa’s only presidential museum.

The 31st president’s museum opened in 1962.

Since then, there’s only been four major renovations to the building, and the last one happened in 1992.

That’s why the renovation is such a big change.

The Hoover presidential foundation says the renovations are set to cost more than $20 million, and the group has raised more than $19 million so far.

The message to future visitors: expect a lot of changes.

“The entire visitor experience. From floor to ceiling, wall to wall in the existing presidential museum, plus an addition of about 2,500 square feet are going to change the entire experience that a visitor will have,”
