KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Some members of the Knoxville community gathered at Chilhowee Park Sunday afternoon to oppose the city's plan to sell of part of the property to the Emerald Youth Foundation.

Under the proposed agreement, the city would sell part of the park that is currently being used as a parking lot. The Tennessee Valley Fair uses the lot as a midway space. Members of the community have spoken out both for and against the plan.

Denzel Grant, a candidate for District 6 of the Knoxville City Council, helped organize the event. He said that while Emerald Youth is a great organization, he wants to "protect public space" and hopes City Council won't go through with the sale.
