ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Monday marks one week since the devastating explosion shook north St. Louis County, leaving many homes near the blast zone unlivable.
On Sunday, a benefit fundraiser was held at Grandel Square, taking donations and raising funds for the family whose home was the center of the disaster.
The fundraiser was centered around the St. Louis Arts and Entertainment Awards Show, which was already scheduled to take place.
The president of the group has a personal connection to Monday’s explosion because his sister’s house was impacted. His nephew, 18-year-old Dontea Anthony, was severely injured, leaving him with burns on 85% of his body.
He says Anthony has a long road to recovery and added the community support has been special to see.
