ELSBERRY, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Recovery in Elsberry, MO, is an ongoing effort after devastating flooding on July 27 from more than 10 inches of rain in a few hours.

While the cleanup from the last storm continues, some people in the south end of Elsberry are sharing their concerns about the next heavy rain. Those who live there fear the levee in the area won’t hold.

It’s getting the attention of the city. On Tuesday, a city leader said a temporary fix is being explored, but a long-term solution has been hampered by unclear ownership of the embankment.

“It’s huge and, as you see the mud, and then over here, it just lets you know it’s hollow,” said Curtissa Kerr. She added, “It hasn’t been maintained. It hasn’t been kept clean.”
