CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Fire departments across the Heartland and the Illinois State Fire Marshal say any intentional fire could easily get out of hand right now, due to dry conditions.

Almost all of the Heartland is experiencing “dry” or “moderate” drought conditions on Labor Day weekend.

The Campbell, Missouri Fire Department took to social media on Saturday to ask residents to refrain from burning anything right now. Firefighters say at least two fires got out of control on Saturday.

Miner firefighters say the wind played a role in a fire that burned 25-30 acres of brush and grass on Saturday.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office posted a few tips to help keep campfires from getting out of control.
