NORMAN — OU football opened its season with a 35-3 win over Illinois State.

Quarterback John Mateer dazzled in his debut, completing 30 of 37 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns and breaking Baker Mayfield's record for most passing yards in a Sooners debut.

OU's first real test, however, will come when it hosts Michigan at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. ESPN's "College GameDay" will host its nationally-televised pregame show Saturday morning in Norman.
