AMES, Iowa (KCRG) - Kicking a long field goal requires strength and accuracy.
Sometimes, you need one more thing: guts.
At the end of the first half Saturday against South Dakota, Iowa State sophomore Kyle Konrardy had the guts when his head coach, Matt Campbell, asked him if he thought he could make a 63-yard Jack Trice Stadium record field goal.
“(Campbell) basically said ‘do you wanna kick it?’ and I said ‘of course,’” said Konrardy Saturday after ISU’s 55-7 win. “He was like ‘F- it, let’s kick it.’”
The 63-yarder is a program record.
