A man has been charged with the murder of Elsiado Marku in Headingley.

Elsiado, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene in Cardigan Road on Friday after being attacked. West Yorkshire Police said last week Elsiado was the subject of a sustained violent attack.

On Monday morning, the force said they had now charged Eljon Markaj, 31, of no fixed address, with murder. He is also due to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court on Monday charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

In a statement West Yorkshire Police said: "Detectives investigating the death of a man in Leeds have charged a man with murder. Eljon Markaj, aged 31, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court today (Monday).
