The Government of Alberta is changing its financial support programs for the disabled. The adjustments are leaving some advocates worried

Disability advocates say the province’s changes to how benefits are paid to recipients may hurt their quality of life.

The move will see many Albertans receiving benefits through the Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped ultimately move to a new program that would see monthly income drop by $200.

The province released its discussion guide for Alberta Disability Assistance Program, which explains that on July 1, 2026, all Albertans currently on AISH would be moved to ADAP and receive benefits as according to the new program’s policies.
