Schools in St. Paul are being given the option of a visible police presence for the first week of classes in the wake of the mass shooting of children at Annunciation Church last week.

St. Paul PD said that it has made the offer to all public and private schools in the city between Tuesday and Friday "to bolster a sense of safety and security in our community."

"Each school was offered our support and each decided whether to have a police presence based upon their school’s unique student and staff community," the department said.

"Uniformed officers and marked squad cars, along with members of the Saint Paul Fire Department, will be visible at schools that accepted support on Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Sept. 5."
