A man who strangled his ex-partner in a violent and "prolonged" attack was found hiding in her shed by police trying to arrest him.

Dimpho Modise, 28, had turned up at his ex-girlfriend's house in Armley in July this year. The pair had been in a relationship for around three years and shared a son when they split in November 2024, Leeds Crown Court heard on Monday.

Prosecutor Harriet Eglington told the court: "On July 19, 2025, she was at home on her phone. She heard a knock on the door and saw the defendant outside the address. There had been no prior arrangement for him to attend her address. She opened the door and the defendant was argumentative, asking who she had been with.
