ASHLAND, Ohio — Mapleton Middle School and Mapleton High School in Ashland County are reopening after passing facility inspections on Monday. The tests came following reported student illnesses that led to evacuations on Friday, Aug. 29.
Superintendent Scott Smith said a multi-agency team was on site to test and monitor the buildings to ensure safety before any decision would be made about reopening.
Ashland County Sheriff Kurt J. Schneider said in a statement that none of those tests of school equipment came back positive for carbon monoxide leaks, gas leaks or facility issues. The results of Monday's inspections mean students can return to campus on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
