TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - One man is dead after a he was hit by a car while crossing the road on Tucson's southeast side.

The Tucson Police Department said the incident happened on Aug. 30 around 9:15 p.m. near South Wilmot Road and East Golf Links Road.

Richard Daniel Townsend, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to TPD, Townsend was crossing Wilmot Road with his family and became separated after positioning himself behind them. Townsend was hit in the median lane by a car driving northbound, and he was not in a marked or implied crosswalk, TPD said.

The driver of the car stopped and cooperated with TPD. An officer from the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit found no impairment in the driver.

The driver and passenger of the car were uninjured.
