RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- Hundreds gathered at the North Carolina State Capitol to send a message to the President Donald Trump administration on Labor Day: 'Workers over Billionaires'

The demonstration in Raleigh was part of a coordinated national effort, with organizers saying more than 1,000 demonstrations took place across the country.

The event was organized by 50501 North Carolina, along with labor union groups and civil rights activists.

It began with speeches, then turned into a march around the Capitol. Cars driving by beeped to raucous cheering from the fired-up crowd. Protesters carried signs with messages like “Eat the rich,” “We the people have had enough,” and “The power of the people is stronger than the people in power.”
