BOSTON — George Valera said his prayers were answered before he finished saying them.

Valera was in Louisville on Saturday night with his Triple-A Columbus teammates.

“Before I even got the call I was praying,” said Valera. “I asked God, ‘Hey, I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’ve been through a lot of ups and downs, but I really want to be in the big leagues this year.’

“I hadn’t finished praying and I got the call.”

Valera officially joined the Guardians on Monday at Fenway Park when teams could expand their rosters from 26 to 28 players. Valera was joined by Columbus teammates Jhonkensy Noel and right-hander Zak Kent, while utility man Will Wilson was optioned to Columbus.
