An iconic building in Cambridgeshire will be getting a £1 million overhaul. Our Lady and the English Martyrs, which is said to be in need of 'urgent help', has been given the funding to repair its 'crumbling' tower.
The church, part of the Diocese of East Anglia, was built at the expense of a Parisian former ballet dancer in the 19th century. The bell tower – with its 65-metre spire – is visible for miles around Cambridge .
But church leaders say this local landmark is crumbling and more masonry could fall soon from the building if action is not taken soon. The Grade I Listed building is used for worship and as a space for the community to use and gather during the week.
