COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Heads up, drivers: Colorado Springs Utilities is starting emergency water main repairs on a major roadway starting Tuesday.

A leak was discovered last month on a large water main on South Academy just south of Chelton Road. Spring Utilities said the repair work was complicated by the main’s location.

“The water main is located under the roadway on a bridge over Sand Creek, and around other utility lines, making the repairs complex,” it said in a news release on Aug. 29.

During the emergency work, one lane of southbound Academy and two lanes of northbound Academy will be closed between Chelton and Astrozon Boulevard from Sept. 2 at 9 a.m. to Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. Springs Utilities said all businesses in the area will stay open throughout the closure.
