Lanes on the Inbound Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) at South Independence were briefly closed during the Tuesday morning commute with major traffic delays as police investigate a shooting.
Reports of an expressway shooting came in just after 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to Illinois State Police, when the driver of a box truck reported someone from a passing vehicle fired shots toward their truck.
According to ISP, the driver of the truck was being treated for injuries.
All inbound lanes of I-290 between Cicero Avenue and Independence Boulevard were closed Tuesday morning due to the investigation, NBC 5 traffic reporter Kye Martin said, with inbound drive times close to two hours.
"Do not take the inbound side of the Ike as you're heading out this morning," Martin warned.
